How to Relax in 10 Seconds.
by John Townsend ~ June 20th, 2009. Tags: meditation, Relaxation Filed under: Relaxation. This is not a difficult or complicated exercise. Although it is simple it can make a difference.
Shut your eyes and slowly count from 101 to 110.
This momentary blocking of external distractions produces changes in brain wave patterns which can be quite beneficial.
If you find the counting a bit mundane then substitute an image of your favorite place.
Fortunately the mind can travel faster than the Internet so we can transport ourselves in our imagination to distant places in a millisecond.
You can considerably increase the value of this exercise by regularly practicing meditation or relaxation.
If you have forged an association between closed eyes and a relaxed state then this will enhance the ten second exercise.
It goes without saying that this exercise should definitely not be practiced while driving heavy machinery, a surf ski or a Stealth Bomber.

I like counting for the purposes of mini-relaxation and I would like to suggest counting downwards, perhaps from 110 to 101 or further if you like. Counting downwards or backwards helps to encourage the mind and the body ease and relax, perhaps similar to the visualisation of going down in a lift and relaxing as you go.
