The Stress of a Broken Heart.
by John Townsend ~ January 14th, 2009. Tags: broken heart Filed under: Stress Management.A relationship breakup can be extraordinarily stressful. In many ways it is similar to the grief that can be experienced when someone dies.
There are many reasons why the breakup of a relationship is so stressful.
1. The breakup forces us to make changes that we may not find desirable;
2. We can experience an acute sense of rejection;
3. We may have to permanently break intimate bonds that have been formed with someone over a long period of time.
It seems totally inconceivable at the time of the breakup that life can ever get back to normal. The brain can emotionally convince us that the future will be permanently bleak and that we will never ever recover.
The good news is that most people do fully recover. The pain of the loss diminishes over time and eventually disappears forever.
Constantly remind yourself that you will recover and never let go of that hope.
