1. How do you know when your stress levels are getting too high?
I notice that I don’t seem to finish projects off properly especially when I have many things on the go at once – my perfectionism can go into overdrive when I am designing a program.
My body is the best barometer. Besides, my husband lets me know in no uncertain terms! He’s a first class personal development coach, so works with stressed clients all the time.
2. What stress strategies work best for you?
Implementing John Townsend’s Stress Toughness Strategies! In particular, remembering to laugh often. I also believe in Michael Licenblat’s 3 R’s – rest, release, & replace. Works every time.
3. Where did you learn your stress management skills?
John Townsend’s Get Tough with Stress Program of course! Brilliant stuff I see so much evidence of negative stress in the training rooms around the country, that we include tips for Stress Management in our programs such as:
• Work no longer than 10 hours a day. Have at least one and a half days a week away from your normal work.
• Allow at least half an hour for each meal. Eat slowly and chew well;
• Relax and meditate at least twice a day. Listen to relaxing music;
• Walk, talk, and move at a slower pace than you normally do;
• Smile and be cheerful whenever you meet anyone;
• Concentrate on the present;
• Do first things first - one thing at a time;
• Express yourself in “I” statements;
• Accept personal responsibility for yourself, and any stress or tension you might be experiencing;
• Remember how important you are to others!
4. What is your favorite holiday destination for relaxation and unwinding?
USA – drive holiday throughout the West Coast. We went there for the very first time in February 2008 – unbelievable and I could do it again & again. I love going for long drives especially as a passenger – it can be both exhilarating and relaxing. The drive to Las Vegas & then through Death Valley & the Sierras was some of the most beautiful countryside I have ever seen.
5. How do you keep fit?
Walk my 2 dogs most evenings or go for early morning walk n’talk with a girlfriend.
6. What two books and CDs would you take to a desert island?
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne & You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay.
Celine Dion Greatest Hits (I was thrilled to see her in Sydney – just missed her in Vegas! ) - Sensational concert.
Best Country Compilation – latest & upbeat of course.
