Gambling: Relaxation or Stress?
by John Townsend ~ October 10th, 2008. Tags: problem gambling Filed under: Stress Management. It has been said that Australians will bet on two flies crawling up a well. It is estimated that over 80% of the population has a punt at some time or another.
Most of the money spent on gambling is funnelled into poker machines. In the State of New South Wales where I live these machines can be found in most Clubs and pubs. Drop into a pub for a drink in a town of 200 people way out in the scrub and you’ll be sure to find a poker machine or two.
Gambling causes enormous social problems and for this reason it generates stress across relationships and families.
The good news is that there are organisations that can assist individuals to break the addiction. Gamblers Anonymous is one organisation that has branches in many countries throughout the world. Australian gamblers can also find a variety of services listed at the Centerlink Gamling Support Services.
ABC Television recently telecast an excellent programme on the topic of the science of poker machines and why people play them.

If you have alot of money.. gambling is probably relaxing. If you don’t have alot of money and your gambling to make money, then I’m sure that it’s stressful.
