Pulling Away from the Gravity of the Past
by John Townsend ~ July 6th, 2009. Tags: past, regrets Filed under: Stress Management. An enormous amount of unnecessary stress is being generated by things that have happened in the past.
If the past is impacting unfavourably on your present and you permit that to continue indefinitely then you will only be totally free of the gravity of the past when you die.
It is very sad to see someone continually weighed down by the past. It can stuff up the present big time!
Post traumatic stress is a serious condition and often requires medical intervention to effect proper treatment. There is no quick, easy solution for this condition but there are effective treatments available.
My emphasis today is not on post traumatic stress but on stress generated by memories of past hurts, disappointments, frustrations and so on.
One way to free yourself from the gravity of these stressors is to stop using them in conversation. If you want to refer to the past find something positive to discuss.
One reason why people get trapped in the past is that when they speak of it others console and comfort them thereby providing positive reinforcement. This can lead to habitual gabbling about past negatives.
I encourage you for the next 30 days to habitually talk about good things that have happened in the past as this shares good news with other people and may impact favourably on them.
Alternatively, and this is my preference, talk about the present and your optimism for the future. If you are feeling well and positive at the moment then let it be known.
When people ask you how you are don’t reply by saying “Not too bad“. An alternative is to say “I’m well thanks and thank you for asking.”

Yes, optimism is essential. The way we think frames our feelings and experiences, and we should absolutely let it be known if we feel great! Starting to focus on the good and not the bad can turn things around. It sounds like a simple tip but you are right to highlight it.
thanks

Its sad 2 see someone haunted by their past and can’t move forward. I kan speak 4 that myself because I have been a victim myself. I did thangs when I was younger that 2day I regret because I was wrong. I realized that when I grew older and matured in todays society. One thing I have learned is that when you do something wrong god forgives you if you come to him with a sincere heart and mean what u say. God forgives everyone as long az you are seeking true forgiveness .some people can’t forget their past because they Don’t learn from mistakes in the past and still live the pattern of the past life. You have 2 forgive yourself because god will
